Impactfully sustainable - Pihlajalinna

Sustainibility in Pihlajalinna

Pihlajalinna is a reformer in the healthcare sector. The company plays a significant societal role in providing social and healthcare services to citizens — as a partner to wellbeing services counties, through occupational health and insurance company collaboration, and via services offered to private customers. In practice, this means taking responsibility for health and wellbeing by providing a comprehensive range of services across Finland with a focus on quality, impact, sustainability and patient safety.

Our sustainability efforts are included in our Annual Report. Pihlajalinna’s sustainability report complies with the requirements of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).

Sustainable business

Pihlajalinna Group's sustainability programme outlines the key themes and measures of promoting environmental and climate goals. In addition, our environmental policy compiles the policies for environmental management and practices, such as identifying the environmental impacts of our operations and the continuous development of our operations.

Pihlajalinna’s private healthcare services: private clinics, occupational healthcare services and hospitals, are certified under the ISO 14001 environmental management standard.

Our environmental efforts are monitored through audits, quality management, feedback, incident reports and self-monitoring, for instance. Pihlajalinna is committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and to setting its science-based emissions reduction targets according to the global warming limit of 1.5 degrees as outlined in the Paris Climate Agreement.

These targets cover the reduction of emissions in our own operations (Scope 1 & 2) as well as our entire supply chain (Scope 3), and they will be submitted to SBTi for approval by April 2027.

Whistleblowing channel

Pihlajalinna has internal controls and a confidential reporting channel (Whistleblowing) where anyone can report any observed misconduct or irregularities within the organization.

Have you observed any misconduct in our operations? Tell us!

In all circumstances, we aim to operate responsibly, legally and in line with Pihlajalinna’s ethical values. If there are any problems or ethical violations in our operations, we want to know about it. We have implemented a confidential whistleblowing channel in accordance with the Directive on the protection of persons who report breaches of Union law (EU) 2019/1937. Pihlajalinna’s personnel, customers and stakeholders can use the channel to safely report any observed misconduct or actions that are in violation of our company’s values. The channel can also be used to report market abuse. Persons who submit a whistleblower report must do so honestly. Ordinary feedback, such as customer feedback, must be submitted through the appropriate feedback channel. The whistleblowing channel is not used to process customer feedback.

How to submit a report?

We recommend that, in the first instance, problems should be discussed with a supervisor or the person responsible for the matter in question at Pihlajalinna. If you do not wish to bring the matter to the attention of these persons, or open discussion of the issue is otherwise difficult, you can use the whistleblowing channel. If you wish, you can submit your report completely anonymously and engage in anonymous discussion with the person processing the report. Reports can be submitted online at https://pihlajalinna.ilmoituskanava.fi

How will my whistleblower report be processed?

All reports are processed appropriately and confidentially. We always maintain confidentiality regarding the identity of the person who submits the report, the person who is the subject of the report and any other parties mentioned in the report. The reports are only seen by the persons designated to process them. Where necessary, other experts may be used in the investigation of whistleblower reports to ensure that they are processed appropriately.

How soon will I get a response?

The persons designated to process whistleblower reports may request additional information regarding your report through the whistleblowing channel. They will also respond to you through the whistleblower channel within three months to inform you of any actions that we will take in response to your report. For this reason, you should take note of the code displayed after you have submitted your report. You will need the code to sign in on the whistleblowing service later and communicate with the persons who process the report.

More information on protecting the identity of whistleblowers

The whistleblowing channel is implemented in partnership with a neutral third party, the Central Chamber of Commerce, to ensure that the anonymity of the person who submits the report is maintained. The Central Chamber of Commerce is only responsible for the technical provision of the service, not receiving the reports. Reports submitted through the whistleblowing channel are received by the persons designated to process the reports, who then process the reports confidentially. Only the persons designated to process the reports have access to them. Reports can always be submitted anonymously. The persons who process the reports do not have access to metadata or IP addresses that could be used to identify the person who submitted the report. All reports are encrypted at the time of their creation using a symmetric and asymmetric secure encryption algorithm that cannot be subsequently decrypted or altered. The persons who process the reports can only view the time and date of the report and the content of the report. If the person who submits a whistleblower report wishes to do so, they can include their name and/or contact details in the report. Sensitive personal information should not be included in whistleblower reports unless such information is essential for describing and investigating the incident. The personal information of the individual who submits the report will not be disclosed to any parties not involved in processing the matter without the express consent of the person who submits the report, unless the appropriate processing of the report requires that information be communicated to the authorities, or other similar measures.
